It’s time to go back to our roots
Although we are very grateful to have been able to survive the pandemic and aftermath by holding Swancons in community centres and smaller venues we feel that for the 50th celebrations it is time to return to a hotel based convention.
We understand that there has always been debate around the pros and cons of a hotel venue, most significant has been the debate around affordability and potential for growth. The committee acknowledges that Swancon will be at a higher price point than other convention formats, particularly the large commercial cons that have gained momentum in the past decade. With this in mind we are committed to finding other ways, such as grant funding and subsidised memberships to increase financial inclusivity of the event.
That said, given that Swancon is a conference style convention rather than a commercial style convention, our prices are extremely competitive for a three (point 3) day conference at less than $300 for a full membership. Rooms at the Pagoda can be booked at a discount direct from their website using the code “Swancon_50”.
Hotel venues and the shenanigans that ensue are core memories for many in the Swancon community and it is an integral part of the Swancon experience. We want to give our established community a chance to revisit that experience and our new members a chance to experience that joy first hand.
